i have my semi on thursday and i was thinking of just putting my hair straight but i do that everyday and im not sure if curls would work cause i have shoulder length hair and layers and bangs so what would look nice but not tooo formal.
How should i do my hair for semi formal?
Curls would be really pretty, especially for a semi...why wouldn't it work? It doesn't matter if you have layers or not, in fact it may actually be better that you do. Just curl it as you would curl even-lengthed hair. Don't curl your bangs though, straighten them. And if you want, wear a wrap or headband between the bangs and the rest of your hair [don't use the headband to push back the bangs, it kinda would make you look like a 7 year old, unless you can pull it off without looking like a little girl.]

put it half up and use a curling iron and curl small parts of it

You should try and just curl the front layers inward and have the back not super straight but have a little volume to it!!

Maybe put your hair in big hot rollors--it gives gorgeous volume and some curl. You will look great nomatter what!

Try a loose bun. It is casual yet still looks formal.

i'd use a three-barreler they turn my hair nice looking and they arent really dressy but look great!

Try fishtail braids- they are elegant, out of the way, and different than your everyday hairstyle. Wanna see what this will look like? Check out this photo I found. http://a820.g.akamai.net/f/820/822/1d/i....
I JUST learned how to make these. If you don't know, I thought I should add this: Here is how!
Part your hair down the center. Beginning on the right side of your part at your forehead, twist a one-inch section of hair away from your face.
Use a comb to separate a 1/2-inch section right below the first section along your face and twist that piece away from your face, combining it with the first piece.
Continue adding 1/2-inch pieces along your hairline down to your neck. Use a clip or a bobby pin to hold the hair in place at the nape of your neck.
Repeat the twisting on the left side, starting at your forehead.
When you reach the nape of your neck, unclip the right side and hold both the left and right sides in two separate sections.
Pull a 1/2-inch section of hair from the right section and add it to the left section. Repeat with a piece from the left section, adding it to the right section.
Continue adding 1/2-inch pieces down to the ends and secure with an elastic.
